Bella Voce Special Projects

Bella Voce has special projects to which you can choose to direct your support dollars.

Young Conductors Mentoring Program

Within the first of founding Bella Voce Chorus, Dawn Willis identified the need in the community for intern and mentorship opportunities for young women, particularly music education majors at local colleges. Through this program, Bella Voce supports 3-5 Mentoring Program Members (MPMs) each year who seek to become professional conductors, music educators and/or accompanists. This program is primarily for college students with vocal talent who are also interested in becoming professional accompanists and/or choral conductors or educators.

The Bella Voce Women’s Chorus Young Conductor Mentoring Program offers women the unique opportunity to advance in their musical careers through a supportive mentoring program that provides a variety of leadership experiences and direct feedback and instruction by multiple professionals for each step of their development from rehearsal preparation through performance.

We invite you to help support this ongoing program with your donation.
Commissions and Collaborations Fund

Throughout Bella Voce's 10-year history, we have strived to expand the repertoire of music written for women's voices. Over the years we have commissioned new works and re-voicing of existing SATB pieces by composers such as Robert DeCormier, Gwyneth Walker, Ola Gjeilo, Randol Alan Bass, Eleanor Daley and others.

This past spring we had a very exciting commission project with Robert De Cormier and his cantata "They Called Her Moses - the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad." An overwhelming response from our audiences led us to undertake recording this work, which will be added to other De Cormier pieces to become our fourth CD, "Songs of Hope and Freedom," to be released next May.

Commissions like these can be quite costly. They can range from $500 to $5000 depending on the complexity of the work, which is more than most choruses can afford to fund on their own. Therefore Bella Voce, as part of our recent strategic-planning process, has decided to establish a Commission and Collaboration Fund to help ensure the creation of new music for women's voices which Bella Voce will perform and record and that eventually will become repertoire available to other women's choirs all over the world!
